The FY2027 President's Budget (April 2026) renewed the request, canceling EDA programs for a $449 million saving. Still a request; the agency stands.

OMB's FY2026 discretionary budget request asked Congress to eliminate EDA (a $624 million cut covering EDA and the Minority Business Development Agency): "As part of the President's federalism agenda, eliminating EDA would drive economic decision-making out of Washington and to States and localities." A request, not an abolition — EDA is a statutory agency and only Congress can end it. Congress declined: the FY2026 Commerce, Justice, Science appropriations act (P.L. 119-74, 2026-01-23) appropriated $400,000,000 for EDA's economic development assistance programs and $66,000,000 for salaries and expenses, and §521(a)(1) rescinded only $60,000,000 of unobligated prior-year balances, so EDA remains in existence and funded. The refusal is recorded here rather than as an event of its own: a refusal is not an attempt.
