“The Bank should be abolished.”
What has happened
- Not started
EXIM was not abolished and the administration moved the other way. The Senate confirmed a new EXIM President on 2025-09-18 (roll call 526, 51–47); the Bank kept approving long-term loans and guarantees over $100 million throughout the window, the most recent Federal Register notices dated 2026-08-24; it expanded its Make More in America initiative to a 90 percent lender guarantee on equipment financing on 2026-06-23; and it announced a "return to profitability" on 2026-07-31. No bill to abolish EXIM was found in the 119th-Congress Corpus; the only Ex-Im bills are S. 3772, which would extend the Bank's authority to 2036, and S. 4308 on delinquent tax debt, both still in committee.

Research notes
- This is a Contested Recommendation, from Chapter 23’s essay “The Export–Import Bank Should Be Abolished”. The Mandate prints the opposing essay beside it, and Chapter 26’s “Case for Free Trade” asks separately to close the Bank (#2100) and to let its charter expire at the end of 2026 (#2121). Those are three different asks about one institution; each is researched against its own words. See the Chapter 26 log.
