Eliminate the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis
Printed page 161 5. Department of Homeland Security
“The Office of Intelligence and Analysis should be eliminated both because it has not added value and because it has been weaponized for domestic political purposes.”
What has happened
- Attempted
I&A resumed shrinking by deferred-resignation and early-retirement offers instead of the 75 percent cut: about 700 staff by autumn 2025, with a target near 500. The office continues to exist.
- Attempted
Secretary Noem approved a plan, announced to I&A staff by acting under secretary Daniel Tamburello, to cut the office from about 1,000 employees to 275 (about 75 percent) — a downsizing under executive authority, not the statutory elimination the Mandate asks for. The plan was paused on 2025-07-09 after pushback from law-enforcement and Jewish-community groups and members of Congress.
