Move all law enforcement personnel from office billets to field billets
Printed page 137 5. Department of Homeland Security
“All personnel with law enforcement capacity should be removed immediately from office billets and deployed to field billets to maximize law enforcement capacity.”
What has happened
- Not started
No directive removing law enforcement personnel from office billets and deploying them to the field was found. Detailing of agents to immigration enforcement was widely reported through 2025 but not on an allowlisted Primary source read for this pass, and hiring authority in EO 14159 and in the two reconciliation acts adds officers rather than moving them out of headquarters.
No action found yet. This entry is the starting point, not a finding.

Research notes
Instrument sought: a DHS or component directive moving law enforcement personnel out of headquarters billets into the field.
Searched, in records current to 2026-08-28: presidential documents, final rules, proposed rules and notices in the Federal Register from DHS and its components; bills and public laws in Congress, from congress.gov; White House presidential actions; and federal court dockets (CourtListener), including the bulk snapshot of 1.2 million dockets. No allowlisted record of such a directive was found. EO 14159 section 21 tells DHS to increase the number of agents and officers available to perform immigration-officer duties, but that is hiring, not the reassignment of existing office billets this Quote asks for.
