“To avoid future moral coercion of the sort experienced with the COVID-19 vaccines, the FDA and NIH should require the development of drugs and biologics that are free from moral taint and switch to cell lines that are not derived from aborted fetal cell lines or aborted baby body parts.”

Neither FDA nor NIH requires drug or biologic development to avoid cell lines derived from aborted fetal tissue. NIH did bar its funds for research using human fetal tissue from elective abortions on 2026-01-22, but that policy is scoped to tissue as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement section 4.1.14.2 and leaves established fetal cell lines outside it, and it is a funding condition on research rather than a requirement on drug development. FDA has issued nothing.
