Retain and support the Office of China Coordination (“China House”)

Done

Printed page 176 6. Department of State

“The State Department recently opened the Office of China Coordination, or “China House.” … Nonetheless, the concept is one a Republican Administration should support mutatis mutandis. … The centralization of efforts in one place is critical to this end.”

What has happened

  1. Done

China House survives, and it survives in the Department's own organizational regulation. 1 FAM 130, the chapter that constitutes the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, was reissued on 2025-03-25 under this administration (change transmittal CT:ORG-699) and still contains 1 FAM 134, Office of China Coordination (EAP/CHINA), providing for a China Coordinator who leads the office, reports to the EAP Assistant Secretary and to the Deputy Secretary, and doubles as a Deputy Assistant Secretary, with three Deputy China Coordinators for bilateral affairs, global affairs, and strategic communications and engagement. The Quote is a “retain and support” ask, and under §3b such an ask is `done` while the thing continues; the office came through the 2025 reorganization, which removed or merged many other offices, with its FAM charter intact.

What was searched, and what didn’t count as evidence

Research notes

  • The instrument that settled it: the Foreign Affairs Manual (fam.state.gov) can be read in full, and every chapter carries a dated change transmittal (numbered “CT:ORG-” followed by a number), so it is both the authoritative statement of what offices exist and a dated record of when that statement was last reissued. This is the only allowlisted source that answers the question: the public bureau index at https://www.state.gov/bureaus-offices/ lists 62 bureau-level entries and no offices below that level, and the Department’s organization chart is bureau-level too.
  • Reorganization context read: “Building an America First State Department”, 2025-04-22, https://www.state.gov/building-an-america-first-state-department/ (consolidation of region-specific functions, removal of “redundant offices”) and “Next Steps on Building an America First State Department”, 2025-05-29. Neither names EAP/China.
  • If the office is later folded away, the FAM chapter is where it will show, and this item becomes reversed.
