Review each American Communities Survey question for intrusiveness

Not started

Printed page 681 21. Department of Commerce

“As with the decennial census, each question should be carefully reviewed to ensure the data are useful and that the questions are not overly intrusive.”

What has happened

  1. Not started

Nothing found. No American Community Survey question was reviewed for intrusiveness or removed. The ACS cleared OMB twice in the window — 2025-12-19 and 2026-05-14 — as a continuing collection with its content unchanged, and the ACS Methods Panel tests (2025-04-18) are ordinary methodological testing.

Research notes

Cluster negative search CENSUS-1 (chapter log): a jq pass over all 83 in-window Federal Register records whose agency is the Census Bureau — every information-collection notice, every deregulatory rule and every 2030 Census operational notice — plus the DOC/CENSUS slice of reginfo.gov’s Unified Agenda (seven RINs: boundary-date, seal, population-estimate-challenge, decennial-release, personal-data and fee housekeeping), plus grep -i census over nominations.ndjson (0 records) and over presidential-actions.ndjson (0). Also the ACS clearance notice read at https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2026-05-14/html/2026-09582.htm and its predecessor (FR 2025-08019, 2025-05-08): grepped for remov, delet, drop, content review and intrusive — the only hits are the standard paragraph letting a respondent be removed from future contact.

An ACS content review is a formal, published process when it happens (the last was 2014-2016); none was opened in the window, and reginfo.gov’s Census agenda carries no content RIN.
