Employment authorization reform came in three pieces — the interim final rule ending automatic EAD extensions (2025-10-30), the proposed rule on employment authorization for asylum applicants (2026-02-23) and the proposed rule limiting discretionary employment authorization for parolees and people under orders of supervision (2026-06-05) — and the asylum bars rule took effect on 2025-12-31 when DHS and DOJ confirmed the 2020 security bars rule's effective date.
