“Transition the Safer Choice program to the private sector.”
What has happened
- Not started
Safer Choice is still an EPA program. Its page was last updated on 2026-07-13 and continues to run certification, the Safer Chemical Ingredients List, the Design for the Environment marks and the Partner of the Year Awards. Nothing transfers it to a private standard-setter, and the Federal Register carries no mention of it in the window.

Research notes
- One negative search covered the OCSPP chemicals and pesticides asks on pp. 433-435.
- A Federal Register search of EPA documents since 2025-01-20 for “Safer Choice” found none.
- The FY 2026 CJ addendum’s OCSPP section describes the office being refocused on “pesticide and chemical reviews” and renaming the Office of Program Support; it does not mention Safer Choice or the pollution prevention program it sits in.
- EPA’s full regulatory agenda, searched 2026-09-01. We read EPA’s entire Unified Agenda on reginfo.gov (214 entries across the active, long-term and completed stages), because the Federal Register prints only the entries that need a Regulatory Flexibility analysis and the 2026-08-27 negatives were taken from that shortened version. No entry anywhere in the 214 mentions Safer Choice, which is consistent with the program being run without a rule. The negative reaches the agenda as well as the Federal Register.
