Appoint one OPA political affairs director plus regional deputy directors

Partially done

Printed page 33 1. White House Office

“The OPA should have one director of political affairs who reports either to the Chief of Staff or to a Deputy Chief of Staff. The OPA should also include various deputy directors, each of whom is responsible for a certain geographical region of the country.”

What has happened

  1. Partially done

The director exists; the regional structure does not. Matthew R. Brasseaux is Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Political Affairs in both the 2025 and 2026 Annual Reports to Congress on White House Office Personnel. The Quote also asks for "various deputy directors, each of whom is responsible for a certain geographical region": the 2025 report lists a single Deputy Director of Political Affairs (Trevor J. Naglieri) with no region in the title, and the 2026 report lists none at all. Neither report contains the word "regional". One of the two objects delivered, so partial.

Research notes

Researched 2026-08-27, in one search that covered all of Chapter 1’s White House staffing asks.

  • One director of political affairs: BRASSEAUX, MATHEW/MATTHEW R. — Director of Political Affairs, in both reports (the first name is spelled differently in the two).
  • Regional deputy directors: none. 2025 has one Deputy Director of Political Affairs, no region named; 2026 has no deputy director of political affairs at all. The Office of Political Affairs staff who are listed carry flat titles (“Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs”).
  • The Quote’s other half — that the director report “either to the Chief of Staff or to a Deputy Chief of Staff” — is not in the report, which carries no reporting lines.
