Create a HUD task force to reverse Biden progressive-ideology actions

Partially done

Printed page 508 15. Department of Housing and Urban Development

“The Secretary should initiate a HUD task force consisting of politically appointed personnel to identify and reverse all actions taken by the Biden Administration to advance progressive ideology.”

What has happened

  1. Partially done

The task force delivered the kind of reversal the Quote describes within a week: HUD canceled $4 million in diversity, equity and inclusion contracts — for "DEI culture transformation", outward-mindset training and a diversity-and-inclusion research subscription — and said in terms that "[t]his savings for the American taxpayer was found by the HUD DOGE Task Force". HUD's hundred-day account adds that it "[a]ligned all programs, trainings, and grant agreements with the President's Executive Orders, removing diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and Green New Deal programs from HUD.gov" and recovered $1.9 billion "with the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Task Force at HUD". A body exists and it has reversed Biden-era actions, which is the `partial` test; it is not `done` because the task force was not chartered to sweep the Biden Administration's ideological actions and no allowlisted source says that sweep is complete.

  2. Attempted

Secretary Turner established a HUD DOGE Task Force "to review how HUD is spending American taxpayer dollars" and to "examine how to best maximize the agency's budget and ensure all programs, processes and personnel are working together to advance the purpose of the department", reporting its findings to the Secretary. It is the Secretary-initiated HUD task force the Quote asks for in form, but not in the two particulars the Quote specifies: HUD describes its members as "HUD employees" rather than politically appointed personnel, and its remit is waste, fraud and abuse rather than identifying and reversing Biden-era actions advancing progressive ideology. Nothing had been reversed on the day it was announced.

Research notes

  • The alternative reading is not started: the Quote names a task force of politically appointed personnel whose purpose is to identify and reverse Biden-era progressive-ideology actions, and the DOGE Task Force is neither of those on its face. We record it because the two readings put the item on different rungs.
  • HUD press releases carry no date in the page body. Dates here come from HUD’s own news index (https://www.hud.gov/news), which prints each release’s date beside its link.
  • The substantive reversals HUD carried out — the AFFH repeal (#1412), the PAVE terminations (#1410), the special-purpose-credit rescissions (#1413), the guidance withdrawals (#1409) — are tracked on their own items and are not attributed to the task force here, because HUD attributes only the contract cancellations and the recovered balances to it.
