Eliminate the Conservation Reserve Program

Not started

Printed page 304 10. Department of Agriculture

“Champion the elimination of the Conservation Reserve Program. Farmers should not be paid in such a sweeping way not to farm their land. … The USDA should work with Congress to eliminate this overbroad program.”

What has happened

  1. Not started

No elimination proposed by USDA or Congress. The House-passed farm bill (H.R. 7567, 2026-04-30) instead reauthorizes CRP through 2031 with a 27-million-acre cap and a floor of 8.6 million continuous-enrollment acres; the reconciliation act's conservation section (P.L. 119-21 Sec. 10601) left CRP untouched.

Research notes

  • The contrary action is cited as Evidence on the not started event above: where Congress or the administration moved the other way, that action is the record. H.R. 7567 passed the House 224–200 (Roll no. 154) on 2026-04-30; received in the Senate 2026-05-19; no Senate action in the congress.gov actions feed as of 2026-08-27.
  • Other CRP bills among those we keep and search are all pro-program and unmoved from committee: H.R. 2758 / S. 1389 (Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program Improvement Act, 2025-04-09) and H.R. 6388 (Conservation Reserve Program Modernization Act, 2026-01-13).
  • No USDA press release proposing CRP’s elimination was found; usda.gov’s press-release index refused automated reads, so the check relied on the Federal Register full-text search and a search of bills in Congress.
