Establish an Assistant Commissioner for Family Statistics at BLS

“Congress should establish an Assistant Commissioner for Family Statistics within the Bureau of Labor Statistics.”

What has happened

  1. Not started

No bill of the 119th Congress establishes an Assistant Commissioner for Family Statistics at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and BLS has created no such post administratively. Read on 2026-09-03, the Bureau's own leadership roster names every Associate and Assistant Commissioner, vacancies included — Assistant Commissioners for Compensation Levels and Trends (Vacant), Occupational Safety and Health Statistics (Vacant), Industry Employment Statistics (Vacant), Current Employment Analysis (Patrick Carey), Occupational Statistics and Employment Projections (Vacant), Consumer Prices and Price Indexes (Robert Cage), Industrial Prices and Price Indexes (Susan Fleck), International Prices (Robert LaJeunesse) and the regional operations posts — and there is no Family Statistics post, filled or vacant. The word "family" does not appear on the page. This is the stronger form of a directory negative under playbook §5: the page lists the offices with their vacancies rather than merely omitting one.

What was searched, and what didn’t count as evidence

Research notes

  • Negative search: chapter log, Cluster negative search — the BLS, CPI and retirement-limit asks.
  • Context that runs the other way and carries no Status event: BLS reduced Consumer Price Index sample collection in three cities in 2025 for staffing reasons and suspended some data products, which is a contraction of the statistical program the Quote wants expanded. Read 2026-09-03 at bls.gov/cpi/notices/2025/collection-reduction.htm (2025-06-16) and .../more-information-collection-reduction.htm (2025-07-29). Those notices are about the CPI sample, not about the BLS organization chart, so they stay here rather than in history; they carry #1619’s event.
  • Corrected 2026-09-03: this item’s notes previously recorded bls.gov as unreachable. It is reachable — every page above opened on the full-headers rung of scripts/fetch-page.mjs (a plain curl still gets a refusal, which is what the earlier pass measured). The working path for the leadership roster is /bls/senior_staff/home.htm; /bls/leadership.htm, /bls/senior-staff.htm and /bls/orgchart.htm all 404.
  • The item had no Evidence at all before this pass, which playbook §6b says is indistinguishable from work never done. The roster now carries it.
