Prohibit CISOMB from helping illegal aliens obtain benefits
Printed page 166 5. Department of Homeland Security
“If CISOMB continues as a DHS component, a policy should be issued that prohibits CISOMB from assisting illegal aliens to obtain benefits.”

No policy prohibiting the CIS Ombudsman from assisting illegal aliens to obtain benefits was issued. CISOMB's case-assistance function is unchanged: DHS's 2025-09-25 information-collection notice for the Request for Case Assistance form (DHS Form 7001) records that the department had considered a revision to the collection, received no comments, and then sought a plain extension of the previously approved collection -- so the intake form the Quote would have restricted was renewed as it stood.

Research notes
Not started, on a negative search covering the asks on CRCL, the Privacy Office and the two ombudsmen. The Quote is conditional on CISOMB continuing as a DHS component, which it does (#448). The 2025-09-25 notice is unusually informative for an information-collection notice: DHS says on the record that it dropped a proposed revision and extended the existing collection instead.
