What has happened

DOE canceled the three proposed National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors selected in December 2024, saying the process should not continue and citing public feedback, local community concern about the scope of NIETC authority, and a climate-alarmist agenda rather than reliability or cost. That is the state and local interest the Quote asks be respected, given effect on the live corridors. Partial rather than done: the NIETC authority itself remains, FERC's backstop siting jurisdiction is untouched, and no policy binding future designations was adopted.
