Withdraw the U.S. from U.N. sustainable-development food schemes
Printed page 293 10. Department of Agriculture
“Remove the U.S. from any association with U.N. and other efforts to push sustainable-development schemes connected to food production.”
What has happened
- Partially done
Presidential memorandum, closing the EO 14199 review, withdrew the U.S. from 66 international organizations, conventions and treaties, including several sustainable-development bodies (the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals, and Sustainable Development; the International Union for Conservation of Nature; the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). None is a food-production body: the FAO, the World Food Programme, IFAD and the Committee on World Food Security are not on the list, and no withdrawal from them was found.

- Withdrawing the United States from International Organizations, Conventions, and Treaties that Are Contrary to the Interests of the United States (presidential memorandum, 2026-01-07)
- Partially done
At the U.N. General Assembly the U.S. Mission stated that "the United States rejects and denounces the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals, and it will no longer reaffirm them as a matter of course" — the U.N.'s umbrella sustainable-development framework, of which SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) is the food-production strand. A stated disassociation, not a withdrawal from any body.
- Attempted
Executive Order 14199 withdrew the U.S. from the U.N. Human Rights Council and UNRWA funding, and ordered a 180-day review of every international organization, convention and treaty the U.S. supports to identify those "contrary to the interests of the United States". No food or sustainable-development body was named; the review is the directive.

Research notes
- The ask names no specific body, so “done” would need either withdrawal from the Rome-based food agencies (FAO, WFP, IFAD) or an allowlisted statement that the U.S. has severed all sustainable-development food work. Neither was found: the 2026-01-07 memorandum’s list (read on whitehouse.gov) contains no FAO, WFP, IFAD or Committee on World Food Security entry, and no later presidential document touches them (a search for “food and agriculture organization” across presidential documents in the Federal Register and White House presidential actions).
- The 2025-03-04 remarks were dated by the page itself (“March 4, 2025, Edward Heartney, Minister Counselor to ECOSOC … AS PREPARED”).
- Whether USDA itself has stopped participating in FAO/CFS sustainable-agriculture initiatives (e.g. the UN Food Systems Summit follow-up) is not established on any allowlisted page; usda.gov press releases refused automated reads. A USDA statement withdrawing from the Food Systems Summit process would justify a further partial.
