Printed page 789 26. Trade · from “The Case for Fair Trade”
“Ban all Chinese social media apps such as TikTok and WeChat, which pose significant national security risks and expose American consumers to data and identity theft.”
What has happened
- Not started
The one ban that existed was set aside rather than enforced. The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act's prohibitions on TikTok took effect on 2025-01-19; Executive Order 14166 (2025-01-20) delayed enforcement to 2025-04-05, and Executive Orders 14258, 14310 and 14350 pushed it to 2025-12-16. On 2025-09-25 Executive Order 14352 determined that a framework agreement moving TikTok's U.S. operations into a U.S.-based, majority-U.S.-owned joint venture was a "qualified divestiture" under section 2(c) of the Act, which removes the Act's prohibitions. TikTok continues to operate in the United States. No action of any kind against WeChat was found: a Federal Register full-text search for "WeChat" across every document type since 2025-01-20 returns nothing.
No action found yet. This entry is the starting point, not a finding.

conditions[term]="WeChat"since 2025-01-20 across all types — 0 documents. Bill titles in the 119th-Congress Corpus matching “TikTok|WeChat” are four bills that would extend the deadline or repeal the ban (H.R. 391, S. 103, H.R. 564, S. 153), all in committee. - The PAFACA ban itself (Pub. L. 118-50, Div. H) predates the tracking window and was the previous Congress’s work, so no done event is recorded for it.
