Increase funding for Border Patrol support personnel

Done

Printed page 140 5. Department of Homeland Security

“Increased funding is needed for BP to hire additional support personnel, which would relieve uniformed BP agents from administrative duties associated with processing aliens and allow them to return to their national security mission.”

What has happened

  1. Done

Public Law 119-98 section 101 appropriates a further $9,550,000,000 to CBP "to hire, pay, train, and equip Border Patrol agents and Border Patrol support personnel to conduct functions other than immigration enforcement and customs functions". Support personnel are now funded in their own right and at scale across two acts; the increase the Quote asks for has been made.

  2. Partially done

Section 90002(a)(1) of Public Law 119-21 appropriates $4,100,000,000 to CBP to hire and train additional Border Patrol agents, Office of Field Operations officers, Air and Marine agents, rehired annuitants and "U.S. Customs and Border Protection field support personnel" — the support hiring this Quote asks for, named in the statute. The act also bars using the money to hire processing coordinators after 2028-10-31.
