Refocus the Bangkok Regional Development Mission for Asia on countering China

“USAID’s Bangkok-based Regional Development Mission for Asia should focus its strategic attention on supporting cross-border initiatives designed to counter Chinese influence.”
What has happened
- Not started
The Regional Development Mission for Asia could not be refocused because it ceased to exist: USAID stopped implementing foreign assistance on 2025-07-01 and its missions closed with it. No successor regional mission was stood up, and no Federal Register document in the window mentions the Regional Development Mission for Asia. Cross-border counter-China work in the region is now run from Washington by State's East Asian and Pacific Affairs bureau (#644).

Research notes
- Recorded as not started rather than achieved-by-other-means: the Quote asks a named mission to change what it works on, and the mission was abolished rather than redirected. One rule, applied across these Chapter 9 items, separates this case from #644.
