“Restore programs to their original intent and reject efforts to create universal free school meals. The USDA should work with lawmakers to restore NSLP and SBP to their original goal of providing food to K–12 students who otherwise would not have food to eat while at school.”

Neither half of the ask has moved. USDA has not asked Congress to restore the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program to a need-tested footing, and the House-passed farm bill's nutrition title (H.R. 7567, Secs. 4101-4310) reauthorizes school-meal provisions — Buy American requirements, fresh fruit and vegetable purchases, dairy incentives, local sourcing — without narrowing eligibility. P.L. 119-21 left the school meal programs alone. The universal-free-meals proposals the Quote says to reject were introduced (H.R. 8798 / S. 4518, 2026-05-13) and referred to committee; they have not advanced, but rejecting a bill that never moved is not the restoration the Quote asks for.
