Restructure the Office of International and Tribal Affairs into the American Indian Office
Printed page 421 13. Environmental Protection Agency
“Restructuring the Office of International and Tribal Affairs into the American Indian Environmental Office and returning the international liaison function to media offices where appropriate.”
What has happened
- Not started
The Office of International and Tribal Affairs came through EPA's 2025 reorganization untouched. It is still a headquarters office on the agency organization chart, and its own page describes the same three divisions it has long had — the American Indian Environmental Office, the Office of International Affairs and the Office of Management and International Services. The international liaison function has not been returned to the media offices, and AIEO is a division inside OITA rather than its successor.

Research notes
- Negative search (2026-08-27): Federal Register notices among the federal records we keep and search include no EPA reorganization notice touching OITA; the FY2026 reorganization addendum lists nine offices and OITA is not among them; the agency organization chart still carries OITA as a headquarters office.
- The American Indian Environmental Office already exists — as one of OITA’s three divisions, which is where it sat before 2025-01-20. The Quote asks for the parent office to be dissolved into it, which is the opposite arrangement.
